Across the UK thousands of families homeschool their children every year. For some this will be because they have a moral objection to the curriculum, for others it will be for practical or health reasons. For others it will be because their child was unhappy in school, were struggling with the teaching or were being held back by class sizes.
For the Class of Covid-19 the reason is very simple - with the schools closed, all conscientious parents are doing their best to keep their children on track.
This is exhausting, stressful and immensely challenging. As you search the internet and see all the historically happy homeschoolers, please remember that what they were doing is NOT what you were doing. They had time to plan, to decide what to do. They also had access to the wider world - museums, castles, exhibitions, clubs, societies... You have your four walls, one slot for isolated exercise in the day and, if you are lucky, a garden. What you are doing is HARD, but what matters is that you are doing it.
Homeschooling is also rewarding, fulfilling and encouraging. You get the opportunity of seeing your children grow, of working alongside them and watching their interests spark. We want to support you to see this side of homeschooling, and to minimise the stress on your family.
